Giving Birth During a Pandemic
Updated: Jun 21, 2021
Three months ago, one of our very own mothers gave birth during the most difficult circumstances imaginable. She came to the hospital with her husband, and both her and husband tested positive for COVID-19 without even knowing it before. Unfortunately, they sent her husband away immediately, and mom was left alone and isolated, since none o
f the nurses wanted to be too close to the virus.
Amid this seclusion, our mother was also having difficulties giving birth naturally. In the end, she had to go in for a C-section to save the baby. She explained that being there during the surgery was one of the hardest moments of her life.
She kept thinking about how she wished with all her heart for her husband to be there with her. She was shaking from fear, uncertainty, and sadness.
That is when she realized why Resilient Families Gilroy had come into her life just a few years before. As she was enduring surgery, she remembered the resilience taught in the program and the stories of inspirational mothers that had gone through hardships and had made it through.
She knew she had to be the strongest she had ever been to make it through because there was no other option; only then did she come to realize how much strength she really had within her.
For her strength was not just her own that she had built and developed in the classes. She was also carrying with her the strength of all the moms she had come to know in the program, and all the lives she changed by sharing this program with other families. Though her physical body was alone in that hospital, her spirit was being lifted by many.
We are so happy to report that mother and baby are now happy and healthy, resting in their home with dad and little brother. What a resilient family indeed.
